Colostrum Expression Kits Now Available at Public Health!
Are you expecting? Did you know that you can collect your colostrum milk before baby is born? Public Health now has colostrum collection kits available. No appointment needed, just walk in to the Public Health office at 113 Thickwood Blvd. Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm to speak to a registered nurse to see if a kit is suitable for you.
Early colostrum expression may not be suitable for everyone. It is recommended that you discuss with your healthcare provider before collection.

Have you spotted our breastfeeding cut outs in Wood Buffalo?
We are thrilled to have been able to unveil our cut outs at the Breastfeeding Challenge event last fall. These cut outs will be at various locations throughout the community. Maybe you saw them at Fort McMurray International Airport or perhaps you noticed one at the Wood Buffalo Regional Library? We continue to move them around to various places in our community so keep your eyes open for these beautiful images of local mother’s breastfeeding their children spreading the message that Wood Buffalo is a breastfeeding friendly community!
Annual Breastfeeding Challenge
Planning for our annual Breastfeeding Challenge is well under way. This year the event will be held Saturday, September 29th at MacDonald Island Park. [see our Calendar for event details]
Registration opens at 9:45 am. Speakers start at 10:30 am. At this years event Councillor Sheila Lalonde will say a few words on behalf of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. There will also be a special unveiling of our new Breastfeeding Campaign!
Participating mother’s we receive a free cup of frozen yogurt compliments of Yogen Fruz. There will also be children’s activities provided by Birchwood Rentals and The HUB Family Resource Centre.

Breastfeeding Campaign
BFI Wood Buffalo is excited to announce a new project to promote breastfeeding in our community. We are working to create life sized cut outs of photos of local mothers breastfeeding their little ones. These cut outs will be displayed at various locations across Wood Buffalo.

Fort McMurray Milk Drop’s FIRST breastmilk donor
The milk drop received a donation of breastmilk for the first time today for the NorthernStar mother’s milk bank! Thank you Cheyanne for your generosity.
Successful 2016 Breastfeeding Challenge
The October 1st 2016 Breastfeeding Challenge celebrating the World Breastfeeding week was a success with 25 babies that latched on at 11am.
