Online Prenatal Education classes

22 Mar 2022, Posted by BFI-admin in Blog, Did You Know

Fort McMurray Community Health Services offers two prenatal education classes.
Our Prenatal Information Class is offered monthly on one Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Zoom. This
class is free and taught by a public health nurse. Participants will learn more about pregnancy, birthing,
parenting, and breastfeeding. Participants will also view a virtual hospital tour.

This class provides participants with:
 A chance to meet other people in the community expecting a baby.
 Knowledge of what to expect during your labour and delivery.
 Breathing and relaxation techniques.
 Immunization and infant safety information.
 Providing your support person with the skills to help with labour and delivery.

Are you expecting? Did you know that you can collect your colostrum milk before baby is born? Public Health now has colostrum collection kits available.  No appointment needed, just walk in to the Public Health office at 113 Thickwood Blvd. Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm to speak to a registered nurse to see if a kit is suitable for you.

Early colostrum expression may not be suitable for everyone. It is recommended that you discuss with your healthcare provider before collection.

We are thrilled to have been able to unveil our cut outs at the Breastfeeding Challenge event last fall.  These cut outs will be at various locations throughout the community. Maybe you saw them at Fort McMurray International Airport or perhaps you noticed one at the Wood Buffalo Regional Library?  We continue to move them around to various places in our community so keep your eyes open for these beautiful images of local mother’s breastfeeding their children spreading the message that Wood Buffalo is a breastfeeding friendly community!
