Family and friends are often willing to help out however they can. Here are some tips:
- Show understanding that the breastfeeding parent and baby need time to bond and learn to breastfeed after birth. Ask the parent(s) how you can help.
- Don’t visit until everyone is settled at home. It can be overwhelming and tiring to have visitors when in the hospital and during the first few days at home.
- Help with baby care like changing diapers and burping.
- Help out with housework, cooking, and grocery shopping.
Provide support and encouragement. Breastfeeding can be challenging in the beginning. Your support is very important.
