It is the responsibility of the healthcare provider to ensure families have all the necessary information they need to make an informed decision about how to feed their baby.

In order to assist a family to make an informed decision the healthcare provider should give information that is evidenced-based, useful and sensitive to a family’s needs. The role of the family is to make decisions that are best for them and their baby.
