Family

Partners can often the breastfeeding parents main support person. What can you do to support the breastfeeding parent?

  • Tell the them that they are doing a great job!
  • Listen.
  • Remind them that they know what is best for themselves and their baby.
  • Help them to be comfortable.
  • Bring baby to them when it’s time to feed.
  • Bring a snack or drink to them while they are breastfeeding.
  • Allow them to focus on breastfeeding and caring for baby. Help with housework and meal preparation.
  • Help with changing diapers, burping and bathing.
  • Cuddle with baby. It’s important for you to have time with baby too.
  • Go grocery shopping.
  • Apply heat and massage to their upper back as needed – massage doesn’t end after labour!
