Gone are the days when babies were sent to the nursery away from their mother. Now moms and babies remain together. Why should we promote this?
- Babies have improved quality of sleep and will cry less when close to their mother
- Mothers will sleep better as their anxiety is reduced when baby is near
- Sleep/wake rhythm of the mom and baby prior to delivery are maintained
- Parents are able gain confidence prior to discharge
- Less work for staff
